Camelia Boulevard Closed Tomorrow Evening

Tuesday, November 20, 2012 - 5:43pm

Tomorrow marks one of the heaviest travel days of the year and one of the busiest streets in Lafayette will be shut down.  Camelia Boulevard will be shut down tomorrow evening from 5:30-8:30 pm.  If you haven't already seen the signs posted throughout Camelia Boulevard, the evening road closure will be due to the annual Camelia Crossing 5-K sponsored by Miles Perret Cancer Services.  It is possible that the road will be closed until 10:00 pm.  Although the heavy work traffic plus the added holiday traffic might make this closure a hassle, it is for a good cause.

"There aren't many people that you're going meet that haven't had to deal with cancer in someway, shape, or form, whether it was them whether it was family whether it was friends."--Lacey Shelton--Community Liason

All money raised will go straight to the Miles Perret Foundation, and so far registration for tomorrow's race has succeeded all others.

"We're kind of here to fill those gaps that the medical partners can't provide and help out with some of the things that we can and really provide a place of hope and support where people can come and feel happy and good despite what their going through and to be able to connect with people that are going through the same thing that they are"--Lacey Shelton

It is not too late to register, you can go to the Miles Perret Center to sign up and pick up your packets during the day tomorrow, or just show up at 4:30 to register before the race and give back to those in our community going through a tough time.  Registration will be at the start of the race which is right in front of City Club.  It is $35 for adults and $25 for children 12 and under.
