Bicyclist injured in collision with 18-wheeler

On Sunday at approximately 8:50 p.m., Lafayette Police responded to a crash involving a bicyclist near the intersection of the NE Evangeline Thruway and Bellot Street.

The driver of an 18 wheeler told investigators he was traveling in the right lane of the NE Evangeline Thruway, when for unknown reasons a male bicyclist rolled into the roadway, striking his trailer. The bicyclist, a 48-year-old man from Lafayette, was ejected and thrown onto the roadway.

The bicyclist was transported to an area hospital and is listed in critical condition. The driver of the truck was not injured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lafayette Police Department’s Traffic Section.
