LUS expenses could rise $175Million

Lafayette Utilities System is looking at making some pricey upgrades. It's because of stricted federal regulations on emissions from power plants.

The upgrades could cost LUS an additional $175 million. LUS co-owns a coal-powered plant near Boyce, LA, and that's the plant that may need upgrades.  Inside Lafayette, there are three natural gas powered plants that provide cleaner energy than coal powered plants. However, the natural gas powered plants are more expensive to operate.
