Police looking for weekend gunman

On Friday at approximately 7:50 p.m., a disturbance was reported in the 100 block of Van Buren between several individuals. The disturbance turned violent when one of the suspects involved produced a handgun and fired multiple shots at the victim. The victim was struck once in the rear left thigh. The suspect fled the area immediately following the disturbance. The victim, an 18-year-old male of New Iberia, was transported to an area hospital, treated and released.

Detectives have issued an arrest warrant for attempted 2nd degree murder for the arrest of 25-year-old Matthew “Matt” Gotch of Lafayette. Anyone with information as to the whereabout of Gotch is encouraged to call the Lafayette Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.
