NEW ORLEANS - At least eight people and two dogs died after a large blaze overnight at an abandoned warehouse.

New Orleans officials say the victims were homeless and burning wood in a barrel trying to stay warm. Temperatures were unusually low below freezing.

Two people did manage to escape the fire.
