Candlelight vigil takes a stand against domestic violence
BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Baton Rouge residents and LSU students came together to take a stand against domestic violence. Dozens of people came out for the 26th annual “Take back the Night” event on LSU’s campus. The event honors those who lost their lives to domestic violence. It also hopes to spur people to action to turn around a trend that sees one in four women become a victim of domestic violence in their lifetime.
“We really want to raise awareness and we want out community to say that these forms of violence aren’t accepted in our community,” says event organizer Summer Steib.
One in five women is a victim of an attempted or completed sexual assault in their lifetime.
