BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — The East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office commemorated for the third year in a row those deputies who went above and beyond.
Awards were given for years of service, deputy of the year and lifesaving.
Among others, Lieutenant Don Dartez was one of those honored for his distinguished service after helping a woman escape her burning home.
Dartez says he's honored to receive the award, but says his actions are just part of the job.
“I would expect everybody in this audience to do that. I was just at the right place at the right time in order to help her," stated Dartez.
Sheriff Sid Gautreaux started the awards ceremony three YEARS ago to recognize those deputies who are doing their jobs every day.
