ASSUMPTION PARISH, LA — A convicted felon is back behind bars in Assumption Parish for allegedly possessing a stolen firearm as well as a bullet proof vest.
Around1:30 p.m. on Friday, June 13, the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to Violet Street in Labadieville in reference to a fight. Upon arrival, deputies spoke with witnesses in the area who advised that a subject by the name “Troy” was wearing a bullet proof vest and showing people in the area a handgun in an aggressive manner.
Witnesses advised that Troy had departed from the area prior to deputies’ arrival and was last seen driving a brown Chevy Tahoe heading towards Thibodaux. Later in the afternoon around 6:00 p.m., Dispatch received a call stating that Troy was in the area of a trailer park near Violet Street. A Detective Sergeant Jason Terry proceeded to that location and observed an individual he immediately identified as Troy Frazier from Thibodaux.
Sergeant Terry approached the vehicle from the rear and plainly observed Frazier walk to the front passenger door of the vehicle and placed what appeared to be a semi-automatic handgun onto the front seat of the vehicle through the open window slot.
Frazier was taken into custody after a warrant check revealed he was wanted by Thibodaux Police Department (failure to appear for no driver’s license). Upon patting Frazier down, Sergeant Terry felt what appeared to be a heavy, thick vest concealed on Frazier’s upper torso area. Upon removal, it was noted that the vest was military issued body armor. Also on his person were eleven 45 caliber pistol bullets in his front right pocket.
After obtaining consent to search his vehicle, Sergeant Terry recovered a fully loaded 45 caliber handgun. This weapon had been reported stolen by Houma Police Department. After obtaining a criminal history on Frazier, it was determined that he was a convicted felon.
Troy Frazier, 30, of Thibodaux, was booked in the Assumption Parish Detention Center and charged with the following: Carrying of Firearm by Convicted Felon, Unlawful Use of Body Armor and Illegal Possession of Stolen Firearm. His bond has been set at $30,000.
