ExxonMobil reports flaring due to power outage, no public threat

Friday, July 13, 2012 - 12:30pm

The ExxonMobil Baton Rouge Polyolefins Plant is currently experiencing heavy flaring due to a power outage at the site.

No community impact is expected at this time, and all appropriate agencies have been notified.

Flaring is a safe, environmentally approved measure to safely burn virtually all of the excess hydrocarbons that cannot be processed during a unit shutdown, slowdown or restart. Flares are safety devices and are necessary to ensure the safety of the equipment on which personnel work.

We apologize for any inconvenience that the flaring may cause.
