Houston couple busted with over 50 pounds of marijuana on I-10

 A couple from Houston is behind bars in Louisiana after they were caught with over 50 pounds of marijuana in their car.

On July 6, 2012 shortly before midnight, a St. Martin Parish Criminal Patrol Unit Deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling east-bound on I-10 for a traffic violation. The driver who was identified as Donovan Smith, 23, Houston, TX, and his passenger Mukeyah Nichols, 20, also of Houston, stated they were traveling to New Orleans, La.

Upon speaking with the subjects, the Deputy could smell the overwhelming odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. The Deputy received consent to search the vehicle and approximately 50 pounds of marijuana in three separate trash bags were located inside the trunk.

Both subjects were placed under arrest without incident and were transported to the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center where they were booked on the following charges:

Donavon Smith was charged with Improper Lane Usage and Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana

Mukeyah Nichols was charged with Possession With Intent to Distribute Marijuana.
