Gretna police have arrest the parents of a young boy who was found walking alone down the Westbank Expressway this morning.

Police found the child at around 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 19. At first they believed the child to be between 2 to 3 years old. However, after locating his parents several hours later, they discovered that the child is actually 5 years old.

Gretna police say the child was identified after his grandparents saw his photo on a local news station. They immediately contacted the police department. His parents, however, never made that same call.

Police then went to the boy’s home and found his mother, Laura Hilton, and stepfather, Lavon Jones. Both were arrested for child desertion.
