Pope Benedict's former butler has admitted to stealing dcouments from the pope's offices and photocopying them. The butler, Paolo Gabriele, is accused of also leaking the documents to an Italian journalist. Gabriele spoke today for the first time in the so called "Vatileaks trial."
Gabriele pled innocent to the charge of aggravated theft, but admitted he was guilty of betraying the pope's trust. He claimed that during his detention by the Vatican's police force, he was held in a tiny room with constant light for the first couple of weeks. This prompted the trial's judge to order an investigation of the force.
