A man is behind bars after he attempted to outrun deputies after a traffic stop was initiated. The suspect is said to have had drugs on his possession once he was detained.

The Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that the incident occurred shortly before 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 8. A deputy observed a white Dodge Charger fail to stop at the intersection of Corrine and W. Main Street in New Iberia. The deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver took off and started a high speed chase.

The chase went down several streets in New Iberia before the suspect’s vehicle was blocked by a passing train. That allowed the time deputies needed to catch up and the suspect was finally blocked and stopped at Fulton and LaSalle Street.

When deputies approached the vehicle they claim the suspect attempted to conceal an object under his seat. A search of the vehicle was conducted and 2 grams of suspected marijuana was located in the vehicle.

The driver, Cedric Moore, 34, of New Iberia, was arrested and charged with Disregarding a red-light, Resisting an officer by flight, Possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a drug free zone, and Obstruction of justice.

Moore’s bond was set at $7,500.
