Former Lafayette IceGator and local bar owner, Eric Cloutier, was arrested Thursday on numerous charges including two counts of felony theft and two counts of attempted felony theft, 340 counts of Obstruction of justice and laundering more than a million dollars over a three year period.
According to Louisiana Alcohol and Tobacco Control, Cloutier, set up cash registers at Marley’s Downtown and Karma Nightclub to conceal sales transactions over a three year period.
The manager of Karma did not want to comment on the situation at this time. Earlier today we spoke to patrons waiting outside-and most of them said they didn’t care about the arrest.
One patron asked that we not show his face, but said the charges were not enough to make him miss out on the Motley Crew performance and the girls gone wild crew scheduled to be at karma Friday.
"No it doesn't bother me. If he's proven guilty I'm sure they'll close it down, but I'm here to listen to the music," the man said.
Cloutier is also accused of illegally obtaining alcohol permits at two of his businesses by providing false information on annual license renewal applications.
Customers said until he is found guilty they will continue to go to both bars.
