LAFAYETTEE - Fourteen people in Iberia and St. Mary Parish have been indicted for alleged food stamp fraud following the 2005 and 2008 hurricanes.
The indictment accuses them of diverting U.S. Department of Agriculture Disaster Food Stamp funds to themselves, family and friends who were not eligible for the money.
Officials say most of the offenders were state employees.
Charges listed include conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud, theft of public money, property or records, and making a false statement to a federal agent.
