LAFAYETTE - Three highway projects will get $29 million in funding and should be underway next year.
Governor Bobby Jindal made the announcement Tuesday in Lafayette.
The money comes from a State Department of Transportation fund that had $120 million in unused operational funds.
The advertiser reports $17 million will be used to overlay an existing 11-mile stretch of Interstate 49 from the Lafayette Parish line to U.S. Route 190 in St. Landry Parish and address drainage structures including the storm drain system on the southbound overpass at Judson Walsh in Opelousas.
$1.8 million will go to rehabilitate and overlay 2.13 miles of La. 724 (South Fieldspan Road) in Duson from La. 342 to U.S. Route 90 in Lafayette Parish.
And the last project will use $10 million to replace the Jefferson Street Bridge over Bayou Teche in New Iberia.
