LA Open: Soggy Day One can't squish scores
Fran Quinn leads the field with a 7-under, 64
Fran Quinn was all smiles after dropping in a putt on #18 Thursday morning. Quinn had the lead.
Most of the early groups teed off in round one of the 2009 Chitimacha Louisiana Open on time but got held up by some lingering lighting flashes midway through the first nine holes.
The course got 2-inches of rain dumped on it overnight but the players were pleased with the conditions out on the course. Puddles formed in some fairways but the greens stayed crisp. The rain made the greens so slick, in fact, that any putt outside 8-to-10 feet was close to impossible to sink.
A couple of players posted low scores on the day. Quinn and Michael Sims paced the pack with 7-under 64s. Darron Stiles and Matt Bettencourt each fired 5-under 66s while Lafayette native Kris Cox and former Ragin Cajun Mike Heinen finished +2 and +3, respectively.
The entire field will most likely not finish round one due to darkness. For complete scores check out live PGATour.com scoring at: http://www.pgatour.com/leaderboards/current/h036/index.html
