Thursday, May 24, 2012 - 19:04NEW ORLEANS — The announcement was made official on Wednesday night's season eleven finale of American Idol. The auditions for season 12 will make a stop in New Orleans for the third time.

The city known worldwide for its muscial talent will showcase the Idol auditions on Sunday, July 15, at the New Orleans Arena. The last time the hit FOX program to find America's next singing sensation made it's way to the Big Easy was just two short years ago. Back then, Idol introduced the new judging panel – Aerosmith's lead singer, Steven Tyler, and movie star and recording artist Jennifer Lopez to the judging trio – alongside longtime judge and Louisiana native Randy Jackson.

Four contestants in the top 24 who auditioned in New Orleans in 2010, Covington's Lauren Turner, Harvey's Jovany Barreto, Laplace's Jordan Dorsey and Florida native Brett Loewenstern, all failed to make season ten's top twelve.

However with the success of season eleven finalists, Westlake, La.-native Joshua Ledet and Mississippi native Skylar Laine, the prospect of more local talent on America's biggest show could be a possibility.
