About 90% of Holiday Travel is by Personal Vehicle
November 20, 2012 — Since tomorrow starts the busiest long-distance travel periods of the year, we talked to Trooper Stephen Hammons to get important holiday safety tips.
"Most important thing that we want people to remember about holiday safety is buckling up and designating a driver. I know that that's two things, those are the two most important things that are contributing factors to our leading cause of crashes in this area when you look at it."--Trooper Stephen Hammons
Trooper Hammons specifies that it is of the upmost importance to have a designated driver before you plan to go to any holiday party. He also further explained seat belt importance. This past Saturday, Sunday, and Monday there was a fatal crash each day, and two of those fatalities were a result of not wearing a seat belt.
Already this year Troop I has had to notify 53 families of fatalities from car crashes, so Louisiana State Police would like to enforce safety during this holiday to make it a memorable holiday for all the right reasons.
