On Sunday at approximately 3:30 a.m., officers with the Lafayette Police Department responded to the 100 block of Van Buren Drive regarding a shooting. The victim, a 24 year old male of Lafayette, had just exited his vehicle when the suspect approached him. The suspect ordered the victim to turn over his valuables and the keys to his car. The victim complied with the suspects demands. Before fleeing the scene in the victim’s vehicle, the suspect shot the victim once in the leg. The suspect drove away in the victim’s gray 1984 Oldsmobile Delta 88. The victim was transported to an area hospital and was listed in stable condition. The suspect is described as a heavy set black male.
At approximately 6:30 am, Lafayette Police began investigating a shooting that occurred on the northbound lane of I-49 near the Lafayette City Limits. The victim was operating his vehicle when a light colored Pontiac Bonneville occupied by several black males drove along side his vehicle. The suspects in the Bonneville fired at least one shot at the victim’s vehicle. The suspects’ vehicle then accelerated ahead and fired a shot into a second vehicle, striking a passenger in the leg. The injured passenger was treated and released from an Opelousas Hospital. The suspects fled the area.
At approximately 6:10 pm, Lafayette Police responded to a third shooting near the intersection of Helen and Madeline Street. When officers arrived on the scene they found an unoccupied vehicle in the roadway with numerous bullet holes. The victim was later located at an area hospital with a single gunshot to the right shoulder. The victim advised investigators that he was stopped at a stop sign when approximately five shots rang out from the drivers side of the vehicle. The victim could not provide any specific information regarding the suspect.
Detectives are asking anyone with information about either of the three shooting to call the Lafayette Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.
