One of Acadiana's favorite sporting events started up today.
The Chitimachca Louisiana Open is underway at Le Triomphe.
This year's field of professional golfers is the strongest ever with 7 former Louisiana Open champions.
the field includes the next generation of player's on the big PGA tour like the son of PGA champion Lanny Wadkins who has won 21 times on the tour.
Now retired, Lanny will be rooting for his son Travis to carry on the Wadkins winning tradition.
we asked 24 year old Travis if his dad gave him any advice for the Lafayette tournment.
"i didn't expect a great golf course, just a very solid field and a solid course, a solid tournament. honestly he was right, the golf course is great, you have to drive it straight off a tee, you have to hit some good iron shots in the greens. you have to know what you're doing out here. it's a great event this week. "
Tomorrow the second round of play begins at 8.
Tickets are ten dollars at Le Triomphe.
