Monday, April 23, 2012 - 5:16pm

Lafayette residents had the opportunity to get rid of dangerous household chemicals safely over the weekend.

Despite some early rain Saturday hundreds of people turned out at Cajun Field to get rid of chemicals that can't just go out in the trash.

People dropped off all sorts of hazardous chemicals that'll be disposed of properly.

"60 to 70% paint, other than that Poison, Insecticide, Pesticide, Turpentine, Chemical Cleaners, Pool Chemicals, you name it. there would be a list that would blow your mind with the miscellaneous. this is the earth day for lafayette, 20th year we've collected the chemicals. an outstanding turnout and a tribute to the citizens of Lafayette for knowing the right thing to do. "

Another hazardous chemical dropoff drive is coming up in the Fall.
we'll let you know when a date is set.
