Lafayette residents will soon be able to enjoy a new public park.
It was three years ago when we heard the protest cry of save the horse farm.
Lafayette residents wanted to keep 100 acres on Johnston Street from turning into a housing development.
In the end the Lafayette City Parish Government struck a deal with the University Of Louisiana Lafayette to make it happen.
The plot of land will be converted into a huge park complete with biking and hiking trails with enough space to host all kinds of outdoor activitiies.
The move serves as an example of how the hub city is trying its hardest to go green.
For the project the Lafayette City Parish Government is forking up six million dollars for the old horse farm.
The farm will belong to the people of Lafayette and the Community Foundation Of Acadiana well help maintain it.
