Thursday, March 22, 2012 - 5:53pm

Former Speaker Of The House Newt Gingrich was at the Lafayette Hilton shaking hands, signing autographs and giving a speech.

He talked to his supporters about why he should be elected President.

A recent poll of Republican voters in Louisiana shows that Rick Santorum has a double digit lead over both Gingrich and Mitt Romney But Gingrich says he won't let the latest poll numbers get him down.

"Let me just give y'all a very simple test. if you had to choose between increasing oil production in Louisiana and increasing it in Saudi Arabia, how many of you, raise your hand, how many of you pick Louisiana? how many of you would pick Saudi Arabia? there's not a single Obama supporter in the room. "

Gingrich, Santorum, Romney and Ron Paul will all find out how they stand in Louisiana this Saturday night for the Presidential Primary.

Polls are open statewide from six in the morning until eight at night.
