Thursday, March 15, 2012 - 7:04pm

Lafayette residents are getting water from Red Cross volunteers and the office of emergency preparedness.

Volunteers are helping throughout the Acadiana area.

Red Cross volunteers have been maintaining a shelter at the Carencro Community Center and they say people have been staying there.

The Red Cross has also been providing meals and information.

"If you have the time to come out and volunteer, we need you. if you are in the position to donate, we need you. we've seen the difference it's already made and we also know there are a lot of days ahead for some of these residents. there's still water at the doorstep and a lot of these homes and a lot of recovery that they're facing."

Now the Red Cross is moving on to assess the damage and distribute supplies for the people who are cleaning up the mess.
