Louisiana State Police Holiday Preparation
Making Efforts to Ensure Christmas Holiday not as Deadly as Thanksgiving Holiday
November 27, 2012 — Not only is Louisiana State Police Troop I increasing patrol, they are pin-pointing certain highways that have proved dangerous over last week's holiday. Three of those fatal crashes occured on a state highway, LA-93, so there will be an increase of patrol on that stretch as well as others. One thing state police is doing is partnering up with the local police departments and sheriff agencies around the area to ensure better coverage around Acadiana.
"We realize we can't do it by ourselves as one agency, and without the support of those other local partners it would be difficult for us to key in on some of those areas. So being able to provide some of that information to these agencies is something that's very vital to our mission."--Trooper Stephen Hammons
The deadly crashes over the Thanksgiving holiday were mostly because of distracted driving, impaired driving, and the lack of seat belt use.
