Lafayette fire department still investigating the cause of the blaze

This eighteen-thousand square foot home is destroyed after a fire that started in the garage and quickly spread late yesterday afternoon.  The family was home, but luckily no one was injured.  Along with the massive home at least two vehicles were also destroyed by the blaze, and although firefighters are saying the fire started in the garage the cause is yet to be determined.

"Just in general I can tell that if you ever see smoke or any fire inside your home the first thing you should do is call 911, and they'll try to get the resources out there as soon as possible because fire will spread very quickly," says Alton Trahan, Lafayette Fire Department.

Firefighters battled the blaze for at least two hours before getting it under control.
