BATON ROUGE, LA (KADN) — The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office reports that a total of three men have now been arrested for raping a 12-year-old girl: Authur L. Jones, 55, of Baker; Michael Jerrold Sherbin, 35, of Baton Rouge; and Ivy Martin, 38, of Port Allen.
A family member of the victim contacted police on Nov. 28, saying she believed Martin was having sexual relations with the 12-year-old.
Detectives spoke with the victim’s mother who told them that she was aware of the accusations. She also said that she did not contact the authorities because the victim had changed her statement several times, and the mother began to doubt her daughter’s story.
Deputies interviewed the victim and learned that she and Martin had sex as recently as Friday, Nov. 22. The victim also said that Martin had been having sex with her since Sep. 2013.
The victim admitted to police that Martin told her she would look like a fool and that no one would believe her if she reported the crime.
When investigators interviewed Martin, he stated that he did not have sex with the girl, but that he had seen other adult men have sex with her.
Martin also told police that he was sick and needed help.
The victim also gave police the names of Jones and Sherbin, stating that they had each had sex with her in July.
During questioning, Jones revealed that he walked in on Martin having sex with the victim in Oct. and that he was drunk and could not remember what he did. The report also states that Jones knew that other men had sex with the victim but never did anything about it.
Sherbin admitted to police that he did have sex with the victim, but that he stopped because he knew it was wrong.
All three men were charged with aggravated rape.
