3-year-old child accidently shot in grandmother's home

A toddler from Benton, La. was shot when a gun accidentally discharged in the child's grandmother's home.

On Monday, Benton Police were called to a house on Scarborough Road on reports of shots fired.

Police discovered a 3-year-old child had been shot by a .22 caliber rifle.

The gun was leaning against a sliding glass door and accidentally went off when another child knocked it over when opening the door.

The child was hit in his left side and was air lifted to LSU to be treated.

Authorities say the child is okay and will be leaving the hospital either Tuesday night or Wednesday.

No charges were filed in this incident.
