BROUSSARD, LA — A 60-year-old woman was killed over the weekend after she was ejected from her vehicle during a crash.
The Broussard Police Department reports that the incident happened at roughly 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31. We’re told it happened in the 6500 block of Ambassador Caffery near Stines.
When officers arrived on scene they located the body of the driver, Brenda Briggs of Lafayette, roughly 75 feet away from the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators believe Briggs was driving at a high rate of speed when she lost control of her vehicle for unknown reasons. Her vehicle went off the road and continued through a field for about 350 feet. They say the car appeared to have overturned several times.
It is unknown at this time whether alcohol is a factor in this crash.
