Acadiana Komen fundraiser Race for the Cure needs more to register

Tomorrow morning in Girard Park

Friday, March 15, 2013 - 3:36pm

The Komen Acadiana foundation started setting up for tomorrow's event early today setting up tents for all of the events that will take place.  A survivor ceremony will kick off tomorrow's event at 8:00.  The one mile group starts at 8:30, and the 5-k will start at 9:00.  Along with the races will be a jambalaya cook-off, a kids for the cure area, and a special fashion show for team captains to parade their team t-shirts.  All of this for a great cause.

"Louisiana is ranked number two in the nation for the highest mortality rate for breast cancer, and so we are working really hard behind the scenes.  Twenty-five percent of every dollar raised here goes to our research fund to find a cure for breast cancer, and then seventy-five percent stays here locally that we give back to our community for screening, education, and treatment for breast cancer," says Heather Blanchard, Executive Director of Komen Acadiana.

How much money the fundraiser brings in tomorrow is how much the foundation will be able to spend on education, screening, and treatment.  You will still be able to register tomorrow morning starting at 7:30 in the middle of the park underneath the two Lafayette General tents.  Komen's promise is to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality of care for all, and energizing science to find the cures.
