Two students from a Baton Rouge middle school were arrested today for allegedly bringing a loaded gun to school.

The East Baton Rogue Sheriff’s Office reports that the gun was discovered in a bookbag that was thrown in a trashcan at Park Forest Middle, located on Aletha Drive. Officals say school administrators contacted law enforcement after school let out on Tuesday, Dec. 18.

We’re told a student reported seeing the gun and administrators located it in the trashcan. Officials say the gun was reported stolen last year in Tangipahoa Parish.

An investigation was conducted and two students in the 8th grade were charged with Illegal Carrying of a Weapon on School Property and Possession of a Stolen Firearm.

At this time officials do not believe any threats were made. However, they do say additional arrests may be forthcoming.
