A controversial bill that would allow convicted felons on parole the right to vote was shot down today.

Representative Pat Smith wanted to move it forward, stating that there are tens of thousands of parolees living in the state that deserve their right to vote back.

Those opposed to the bill said felons shouldn't get their rights back even after serving their time.

In the end, the committee decided not to take up the law, siding with those opposed to allowing felons to vote before they've served their time, both in and out of jail.
