BROUSSARD, LA (KADN) — It was a scary morning in Broussard after an elementary school was evacuated due to a bomb threat.
The Broussard Police Department was notified by school officials during the early morning on Thursday, May 2 about a possible bomb on campus.
“A student saw writing on the bathroom walls that there was a bomb on campus,” Chief Brandon Decou explained. “At that time the school board notified us and the evacuation of the school occurred.”
Several agencies and bomb sniffing dogs were brought in to search the school for possible explosives. After an extensive effort, officials deemed the school safe. Students were allowed to return to campus by roughly 11:00 a.m.
Chief Decou said investigators are currently working to identify the student responsible for writing the threatening message.
