Bond was set at $225,000 for a man accused of ramming his vehicle into the gate at Angola Prison. The judge also ordered an evaluation regarding his mental state.

The incident happened at the prison located in West Feliciana Parish on Sunday, Sept. 8 shortly after 2:30 p.m. We’re told the suspect, Floyd Tillman, 26, circled the area several times in his vehicle before he allegedly attempted to ram the gate.

“Front gate officers attempted to stop the vehicle by firing shots,” a press release stated. “Louisiana State Police investigative staff…pursued the vehicle until 2:57 p.m. when the chase stopped as the result of a head on collision atop the levee circulating the massive grounds.”

Two small children were reportedly in the vehicle at the time of the crash. There were no reported injuries.

Reports indicate that the children had been reported missing prior to the incident. Officials have not released any further information regarding Tillman’s connection to the children.

“Investigations into the reasons why Tillman chose to come to the prison are on-going,” Warden Burl Cain said.

Tillman was arrested and charged with Simple Criminal Damage to Property over $500, Cruelty to a Juvenile, Criminal Trespassing, and Remaining After Being Forbidden.

The investigation is ongoing.
