BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — UPDATE: The Baton Rouge Police Department reports that the victim of the shooting has been identified as Corey A. Kaufman, 32, of Baker.
Officials say Kaufman was banned from the club and at least two security guards working at the club were escorting him off the premises. That’s when the guard says Kaufman made verbal threats of violence to the guards. Kaufman allegedly retrieved a handgun from his vehicle and pointed it at one of the guards. The guard pulled out his weapon and fired at Kafuman, striking him in the chest. Kaufman died at the scene.
ORIGINAL: A security guard at a local club says he was forced to shoot and kill a man early this morning in self-defense.
The Baton Rouge Police Department was called to Club Sha La, located on Plank Road, at roughly 1:30 a.m. When officers arrived they found a man beside his vehicle in the parking lot. He was declared dead at the scene.
Officials say the security guard told officers he was forced to shoot the man in self-defense. Sources did not provide any additional information relative to the actions of the individual that made the guard feel threatened.
