Bump in Social Security might not happen

Monday, October 15, 2012 - 6:11pm

The Social Security Administation says seniors might not see the bump they are used to in their monthly social security checks which means seniors all over the country including right here in Acadana might need to tighten their belts.

Each year a cost of living adjustment is decided on for seniors and their checks.
last year it was four percent.

Estimates for next year show only a one or two percent bump.
That is because the prices for food, and medicine did not rise as high as they have in the past.
The small increase amounts to anywhere between twelve and twenty four dollars a month for seniors.

The official announcment is expected tomorrow.
The adjustments have been happening since the 1970's.
Back in 2009 there was no increase which was the first time a halt in increases happened.
