Burglary suspect escapes BRPD custody
BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — A burglary suspect escaped from police custody this morning as he was being transported for medical treatment.
The Baton Rouge Police Department has a perimeter established on Polk and Colorado Street, which is located off of Highland Road in second district.
We’re told the suspect was in police custody related to burglary charges, but escaped at around 10:30 a.m. Officials say the suspect began complaining of medical issues, so he was being transported for treatment. At some point he managed to escape.
Officials could not provide a name for the suspect, but did say that he is a black male, in his 50’s, and roughly 5’8” tall, 150 pounds. We’re told he is handcuffed and wearing a walking boot on one leg. It was from a previous injury for which he received treatment.
East Polk Elementary has been placed on lockdown. However, they have not been specifically identified at this time.
