Department of Transportation and Development Kicks-off Start of Construction
December 4, 2012 — This project will resurface 5.2 miles of La 93 between Cankton and La 182 in St. Landry Parish. A ceremonial groundbreaking was held at the Sunset Community Health Center with state and local officials joining members from the Department of Transportation. With the completion of i-49 south, this route when finished will provide direct access to the ports and rail facilities in New Orleans and southeast Louisiana.
"It's so important for us to preserve our existing roadways here in the state of Louisiana and to make sure that we rehabilitate to keep our roads in good repair," says Sherri Lebas, Secretary of DOTD.
This stretch has an average of 3,300 drivers each day. It is much needed relief for the drivers who use this road each day and will also help to foster economic development for St. Landry Parish. DOTD extended their thanks to citizens, legislatorsm and the Jindal administration for their support in getting this project underway. The estimated time of completion is around early summer next year.
