A community pays final respects for fallen deputy
LAPLACE, LA (NBC33) — It is a somber day in LaPlace as a community pays its last respects to a deputy killed in the line of duty. The service is being held at the St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church located on West 5th Street in LaPlace.
St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Deputy Jeremy Triche, 27, was one of two officers who was shot to death on Thursday, Aug. 16. The incident happened at a trailer park at around 5:00 a.m.
Deputy Brandon Nielsen, 34, was also killed during the incident. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 21 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lakelawn Funeral Home in Metairie. The service will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 22.
Seven people were charged for the shooting. They include Terry Smith, 44, Principal to Attempted First-Degree Murder; Brian Lyn Smith, 24, Attempted First-Degree Murder; Derrick Smith, 22 - Principal to Attempted First-Degree Murder; Kyle David Joekel, 28, Principal to Attempted First-Degree Murder; Chanel Skains, 37, Accessory After the Fact to Attempted First-Degree Murder; Teniecha Bright, 21, Principal to Attempted First-Degree Murder; and Brittney Keith, 23, Accessory after the Fact to Attempted First-Degree Murder.
