Earlier today, a crash involving two vehicles killed two men.

Troopers responded to the crash around 7:00 a.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 1 near the community of Hamburg. The crash involved a 2001 Toyota pickup, driven by Leo J. David, 66, of New Roads, LA and a 1999 Toyota pickup, driven by Michael B. Zaunbrecher, 37, of Mansura, LA.

The 2001 Toyota was northbound on LA Hwy 1 when David lost control and crossed the centerline into the southbound lane. This action resulted in the 2001 Toyota colliding with the southbound 1999 Toyota.

David was not wearing his seatbelt and was pronounced dead.

Zaunbrecher was not wearing his seatbelt and was pronounced dead.

Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seatbelt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!”

Troop E Troopers have investigated 24 fatal crashes in 2013, resulting in 25 fatalities.
