Delcambre is known as the center of the shrimping industry so what better place to hold the 64th annual Shrimp Festival which kicked off Wednesday.

The first Shrimp Festival was held in 1954 and has grown so much that it is listed as one of Louisiana's top ten festivals.

With largest crowds expected to pass through starting tonight through Sunday, you are sure to see people from all over who have headed to Delcambre to get a taste of all the delicious shrimp cusines they can get their hands on.

According to Delcambre Shrimp Festival Association member Jason Migues says he has met people from as far as Australia at the festival this year and expects the weekend to be as successful as the tradition that started 64 years ago.

"It first started as a way to raise money for our local fore department. Since then it has just grown into something that we can use all the money that we raise to support the programs in our community." said Migues.

"Such as the sports programs, the band programs at the local schools, and also at the elementary school to buy playground equipment and other things. Come on down to the Shrimp Festival this weekend and have a good time. We great entertainment, great food, and cold beverages."

Live entertainment started off tonight and will continue in through the Sunday festivities. Also don;t forget to bring the family and little ones along, because whether it be the foods, drinks or rides, everyone is sure to have a great time at Delcambre's 64th Annual Shrimp Festival.
