BATON ROUGE, LA (KADN) — Detectives are investigating a drive-by shooting that killed one child and injured another.
Investigators say a family was driving in the 8900 block of Prescott Road around 11:10 p.m. on August 16, 2014, when their car was hit by gunfire.
Casey Hicks, a sheriff’s spokesperson, says the gunshot came from a dark-colored car, traveling in the opposite direction.
The parents said they heard what sounded like a "pop," the realized two of their children had been shot.
Hicks says the children were transported to a local hospital where a 7-year-old boy was pronounced dead.
The other child was only grazed by the bullet, and had “non-life-threatening injuries.”
