Driver charged with vehicular homicide in Lafayette crash
LAFAYETTE, LA — An Alabama man has died as the result of a car accident in Lafayette.
On March 15 at approximately 1:45 a.m., Lafayette Police responded to the intersection of East Kaliste Saloom Road and the SW Evangeline Thruway regarding a major crash.
Witnesses tell traffic investigators that a Ford truck traveling south on the Evangeline Thruway collided with a Chevrolet car turning left from East Kaliste Saloom Road onto the SE Evangeline Thruway.
The driver of the Ford pickup, Casey Robertson, 26, of Lafayette, was arrested and charged by traffic investigators with Vehicular Homicide, OWI, Driving Under Suspension, and Disobeying a Red Signal Light.
Police continue to attempt to make notification with the next of kin for the victim, a 61-year-old male of Alabama. The crash remains under investigation.
