Entergy Sending Out Safety Tips for Holiday
Keep Safety First In Your Plans
November 30, 2012 — As you decorate for the holidays Entergy reminds you to keep safety first and foremost in your plans. A few tips: Be sure to stay away from overhead power lines as you string lights, use a fiberglass or wooden ladder that doesn't conduct electricity, inspect your lights before stringing them, and be careful not to overload extension cords or outlets.
"People light candles this time of year, open flames, that kind of thing, near a tree of near decorations. We're just asking them to be safe," says Liz Duhon, spokesperson for Entergy in Lafayette.
For greater efficiency and safety Entergy suggests you use smaller, cool-burning LED lights. They will save you money on your electricity bill and they do not get as hot as incondescent lights. The LED bulbs use up to 90 percent less energy than a traditional bulb to produce the same amount of light.
