Flow of natural gas caused by platform blow ‘bridged over’ with sediment
GRAND ISLE, LA — Natural gas has stopped flowing from a well that caught fire earlier this week in the Gulf of Mexico, officials confirmed.
Federal regulars report that the natural gas flow was “bridged over,” which means that sand and sediment collapsed into the area that was being drilled, causing the line to become blocked.
The Coast Guard safely rescued 44 people from the platform shortly before 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 23. It happened on Hercules Platform No. 265, located about 40 miles south and 10 to 15 miles west of Grand Isle.
