Four arrested after drugs, gun were found in home where 3-year-old died

A 3-year-old child was found dead yesterday morning in New Iberia. Although deputies do not currently know the cause of death, four people living in the home were arrested after deputies found illegal drugs and a firearm.

The Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that deputies were contacted at roughly 6:30 a.m. on Friday, May 3 regarding the death of the child. Although the cause of death is unknown, investigators obtained a search warrant for the home.

During the search deputies located marijuana and illegal prescription medications. They also recovered a “sawed off” shotgun with a barrel under 18 inches.

Officials say four adults were in the home, along with two other children under the age of 6. Officials did not provide the relationship of the children in the home to the adults.

Rayvis Frederick, 45, and Donielle Frederick, 44, were both charged with Possession of Schedule I and IV narcotics, Possession of a Firearm in the Presence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance in the Presence of a Minor, Contributing to the Delinquency of Juveniles, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

Josh Blanchard, 19, and Brittany Leblanc, 22, were both charged with Possession of Schedule I and IV narcotics, Possession of a Firearm in the Presence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance in the Presence of a Minor, Contributing to the Delinquency of Juveniles, and Possession of an Illegally Transferred Firearm.

The Iberia Parish Coroner’s Office will conduct an investigation on the child to determine the exact cause of death. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
