There were two fatal crashes and thirteen DWI arrests here in Acadiana this weekend.  With Festival International this weekend state troopers say they expect they'll be just as busy.

"We're going to have extra troopers who are out on the road this coming weekend as well looking for people who are not wearing seat belts, people who are driving impaired.  Those are the things that we know right now in Acadiana are leading factors in fatal crashes that we're investigating," says Trooper Stephen Hammons, State Police Troop I.

One of the fatal crahses was Saturday night on US 90, killing 39 year old Gonzalo Lopez of New Iberia.  It was a non-contact hit and run crash and troopers are still looking for the second vehicle involved.  The second vehicle swerved in front of Lopez causing him to crash.  Anyone with information about this crash is asked to call State Police at 337-262-5880.
