Lafayette, La — The UL Lafayette Faculty Jazz Combo will present a concert benefiting Chorale Acadienne and the Paul and Lulu Hilliard University Art Museum. The event, titled Jazz on the Plazz, will be presented Friday, May 10 beginning at 6:00 p.m. with cocktails on the plaza of the Hilliard Museum at 710 East Saint Mary Blvd. Tickets are $25 each or $200 for a reserved table seating four. Admission includes cocktails and wine contributed by Glazer’s Distributors.
The Jazz Combo will include Paul Morton, trumpet; Bob Luckey, saxophone; Jeff George, guitar; Garth Alper, keyboard; Troy Breaux, drums; and bassist Robert Nash. The concert will also feature a special appearance by guest vocalist Patsy Bienvenu.
For the last twenty years the UL Lafayette Faculty Jazz Combo has been dedicated to the promotion of jazz on the highest level. The group, comprised of the Jazz Studies and Music Media faculty, performs compositions in a number of styles including swing, bebop, hard bop, post bop, and originals that explore a number of contemporary jazz styles. The Faculty Jazz Combo's exploration of different rhythmic grooves keeps the music fresh and the audience engaged.
In keeping with an important tradition of the jazz genre, the combo balances a unique group conception with improvisatory soloing. Recent performances have included radio and World Wide Web broadcasts and concerts in Baton Rouge, New Orleans, and a number of other communities throughout Louisiana.
