Jeanerette names Kenneth Kern outstanding citizen
JEANERETTE, LA (KADN) — Jeanerette’s outstanding citizens will be honored at the 58th annual Outstanding Achievers Awards Banquet on February 7.
The banquet held by the Jeanertte Chamber of Commerce, gives awards to the most outstanding citizen, and the categories of outstanding: senior citizen, professional, educator, public servant, couple, and student.
The Jeanerette Chamber of Commerce says it has named Kenneth Kern as Outstanding Citizen of the year.
A native of Jeanerette, Kern is an alumnus of UL Lafayette and served as an officer in the U.S. Air Force.
Kern is a successful businessman, having both managed the Jeanerette Electric Company and owned his own his own furniture store, for over 50 years. He has also owned a Radio Shack franchise for over 25 years.
Kern also has a record of public service, serving three terms on the Jeanerette City Council.
He has been an active member of the community, serving as a minister at the St. John the Evangelist Church, and a member of the Jeanerette Chamber of Commerce.
The chamber has named health care professional Mae Willow Jean-Batiste, Outstanding Senior Citizen; pharmacist Jacques Larroque, Outstanding Professional; teacher Maria Robicheaux, Outstanding Educator; Jeanerette’s city marshal Fernest Martin, Outstanding Public Servant; Ronald Sovine, Outstanding Volunteer; ministers Darlene and Wilton Gibson Jr., Outstanding Couple; and senior high school students Madison Switzer; Outstanding Student.
The awards banquet is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday, February 7 at the Ward Eight Recreation Center in Jeanerette.
